Introducing the new Teatro Latino at Marietta’s New Theatre in the Square! Marietta’s New Theatre in the Square presents In The Heights to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month! Over the course of the Tony award-winning musical, In the Heights, we encounter the many colorful residents of Washington Heights — a New York City neighborhood on the brink of change. Usnavi, a first generation Dominican-American corner bodega owner, and his friends and family are dealing with the pressures of rising rents and closing neighborhood businesses. As one family struggles to figure out how to pay for an Ivy League tuition for their brilliant and hard working daughter, a young woman is trying to put a down payment on a new apartment, and Usnavi himself is trying to get back to the Dominican Republic to reconnect with his roots after the death of his parents. In Washington Heights, community is everything, and we see how each of these individuals struggles to survive and how these same individuals come together as a community to mourn their losses and rejoice in their triumphs. Over the course of the show, we see the hard-working residents of Washington Heights grapple with love and lust, identity and racism, all while the prospect of a winning lottery ticket hangs in the air, potentially changing the livelihoods of the people and the community forever. This revolutionary new musical combines Latin rhythms and dance with hip-hop lyrics to tell a captivating story about what it means to chase your dreams as you cling to your roots, and to celebrate the community from which you grew. "Spring Awakening" took Broadway by storm when it debuted, winning eight Tony Awards, including Best Musical. Punctuated by an electrifying and hauntingly beautiful rock score co-written by pop mastermind Duncan Sheik, this bold and touching drama captures the timeless and turbulent experience of transitioning from youth to adulthood, as a group of teenagers navigate the confusing and often troubled waters of adolescence and their budding sexuality. Based on Frank Wedekind's expressionist play that caused controversy in 1891 Germany, the show's sharply drawn characters grapple with issues like teen suicide, pregnancy and identity -- tough topics that remain as relevant as ever -- in this production of "Spring Awakening" at OnStage Atlanta in Scottdale. For fans of The Who, the announcement of a brand-new tour means only one thing: The world’s most untamable rock band is about to deliver the goods once again. Never ones for nostalgia, singer Roger Daltrey and guitarist and songwriter Pete Townshend will be unleashing the combustible force that is The Who, with syphmonic accompaniment, this summer and fall. The Who’s North American "Moving On!" Tour will bring their indelible brand of powerhouse rock to 29 cities across North America in anticipation of their first album of new songs in 13 years later this year. On stage, the line-up will be rounded out by familiar Who players featuring guitarist/backup singer Simon Townshend, keyboardist Loren Gold, bassist Jon Button and drummer Zak Starkey, and complemented by some of the best orchestras in the U.S. and Canada. The tour is their first return to the states since their 2017 Las Vegas residency. The Who debuted in 1964 with a trio of anthems: “I Can’t Explain,” “The Kids Are Alright” and “My Generation.” Since then they have delivered to the world hits such as “Baba O’Riley,” “Won’t Get Fooled Again,” “Pinball Wizard,” Who Are You,” and “You Better You Bet.” In 2008, they became the first rock band ever to be awarded the prestigious Kennedy Center Honors.
